The hanging basket

I wanted to hang some cool funny nest-like baskets on my daughter’s room, something to bring more joy and originality than having cute frames or pictures.
As usual I dug into Pinterests’ suggestions and got myself a handful of ideas. Got a glimpse of how I could make one, by looking at how the stitches open and close to give the basket the desired size and opening and gave a shot at crocheting one.

The first one got a bit too small but still cute enough to use it, and then I made a much larger one to fit Totoro in it. It looks really nice! But I wish I had done it in red to give a bit more of contrast and simplicity, instead of the messy mix of colours. Well, anyway, it’s done and it looks really good. If I decide to take it away from the room, I can hang it on the balcony wall with a nice vase of flowers in it, and make the red one instead.

Here are some hints on how I made it.

The base - the larger you make it the bigger the basket will be.

The spine - for every round you make with these increases, the wider the basket’s opening will be, because it’s the single crochet round or rounds in the end that will start closing it again, at your preferred size.

And this is how they look like now! Don’t you agree that it would look nice in red? :)
